How to Have More Self Esteem in Your Life
Jul 21st, 2009 by admin

Having more self-esteem can help your personal and professional life improve. Additional confidence and self-assurance can take you far. Your inner thoughts and beliefs can stand in your way as you try to develop a confident persona.

Problems with Confidence

Being confident is a very admirable characteristic that is welcoming and assuring. Those who lack this characteristic may seem untrustworthy or weak. When you have problems with confidence, it can stem into other areas of your life.

You may be like many people who feel that their own confidence is an unsavory characteristic. It is necessary to make a distinction between arrogance. Confident tendencies are energetic and positive. Arrogance is defeating.

A person with more self-esteem is confident. This quality seeks to work with others and to help bring the best out in those around you. Arrogance is belittling and assuming. Confident behavior is not arrogant because it is beneficial.

Perception and Value

You are a deserving individual who has something unique to offer. This may be difficult for you to see if you have a deprecating core belief system that works against you. Your perception of who you are is a very important aspect of your success in gaining assurance and confidence.

It takes practice to see your own value and worth when you have a negative perception of yourself. It is necessary to change the way you see yourself as you develop more value for who you are.

Using Self-Hypnosis to Get More Self-Esteem

Your perception of who you are has been in development for your entire life. You have thought processes that focus on certain aspects and it is important to take an objective inventory of your core beliefs about yourself. This can help you see how realistic you are and which areas need to be addressed.

Hypnosis can help you develop positive thoughts about yourself while removing the negative thoughts. Instead of focusing on your faults, you begin to recognize your strengths. You also learn to be less critical of your actions.

Your inner critic can be helpful but it can also be your worst enemy. Hypnosis works to balance the critical voice with an affirming one. The focus isn’t on your mistakes and things that you can’t control. It is on what you can do and what you do well.

Enjoy the process rather than focusing on perfection. Hypnosis helps you get over the urge to be perfect. You develop a practice of seeing mistakes as sources of learning and growth and you genuinely feel good about yourself.

Your core beliefs about yourself can stand in your way unless you work through the subconscious mind. You can foster a new, healthy belief system that is positive and assuring. Hypnosis is a wonderful approach to develop more self-esteem.

How to Build Lasting Self-Confidence
Jul 19th, 2009 by admin

Self-confidence is having the belief in our ability to do or accomplish something, or to succeed. It largely involves our past learning experiences, successes, and achievements.

For many of us self-confidence can fluctuate up and down, depending on the daily challenges we face in comparison with our ability to deal with those challenges. However, building a sustainable and balanced self-confidence is achievable. What follows are some ways to do just that.

First and foremost, building a lasting self-confidence requires a degree of focus and the determination to follow through toward real and solid achievements. There is no quick way to acquire self-confidence. It requires work because that’s what success requires, and it is success in our endeavors that breeds self-confidence. Thus, the more successes you have the more lasting your self-confidence will be.

Secondly, to build upon the self-confidence that you already have take an inventory and recall your past successes. Bring to mind the feeling you had at the moment of each of those successes. Experience those successes in your mind again and then apply that experience to the current challenge you might be facing.

Many athletes perform this very mental exercise prior to every competition they participate in. Some call it “psyching the self up”. But it’s that recalled feeling that help these competitors build the lasting self-confidence to be successful in each and every competition.

Goal setting is also important to establishing lasting self-confidence. Often we successfully accomplish a task and reap the rewarding feeling of self-confidence, only to have our self-confidence dissipate over time. This is because we didn’t set other goals after completing the previous one.

If you want to have lasting self-confidence then you need to ontinuously set goals before yourself and accomplish them each and every time, one after the other. Moreover, by setting goals and accomplishing them you put structure into your life. Structure can help in establishing a lasting self-confidence.

Confident self talk is another way to build lasting
self-confidence. Let yourself know you are capable of accomplishing your goals. Tell yourself that you will effectively execute the strategies necessary to reach your goal.

If necessary think the strategies through, envisioning yourself in the execution of each and every step. This is called visualization and it will influence your self-confidence.

Our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all inter-related. Whenever you act confidently it will help increase your
self-confidence. This is especially important to do when your self-confidence begins to diminish, which at times happens to even the best.

To act confidently keep your head up, put a bounce in your step, and focus on those things you can control. Even when things don’t seem so good, this behavior can activate thoughts of self-confidence.

To maintain a lasting self-confidence it is very important to have and focus on achievable goals. If your goals are
realistically beyond your immediate reach you may be setting yourself up for a failure and failure, although it is part of the learning process, may not help you to establish lasting self-confidence.

Instead, set goals for yourself that are challenging, but ones that you know you can reach and successfully accomplish with a bit of hard work and determination.

Self-confidence comes not just from the accomplishment of our goals, but more from the knowledge of the hard work we invested into accomplishing them. Almost every true soldier knows that it’s not just the winning of the battle that makes a soldier, but more importantly it’s the battle itself that makes a soldier a soldier.

Yes, soldiers do reflect upon the glory of victory, but they reflect more upon the sweat, blood, and tears that made the victory possible. Lasting self-confidence is developed through the same principle.

How to Build Confidence by Understanding What it is – And What it Isn’t
Jul 16th, 2009 by admin

I used to feel quite concerned when my clients asked me how they could build their confidence. As a Personal Coach I was clear what they wanted – but I knew the concept of ‘confidence’ was intangible. Only after years of helping and supporting people did I realise what this request was really about.

There are numerous powerful techniques around today to help people build confidence. One of them – Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) – has produced a great variety of tools, most of which are designed to help people feel unstoppable, energised and invincible.

Sometimes these feelings are appropriate to a situation and sometimes they’re not the right sort of confidence required. For example, if a loved one needs emergency brain surgery and the surgeon who is going to perform it is bouncing off the walls with energy and absolutely 100% confident, you might not feel happy about entrusting your loved-ones life to them if you discovered they were only a junior doctor!

In this article I invite you to further explore what being confident means to YOU.

I shall start with some simple questions:

- Are you confident that you can clean your teeth or do you need to use techniques to feel unstoppable before picking up your toothbrush and toothpaste? I suggest you just go to the bathroom and brush your teeth, not giving it a second thought! I think it’s probably safe to say that you’re confident you can clean your teeth.
- What about switching on the light in your living room, or getting yourself dressed in the morning – even driving to work? These too are things you know you can do and feel confident about – right?
- Have you noticed how people talk about confidence? While they will commonly tell you they’re confident about doing this, or that, they mostly use the word confidence in connection with a lack of it! For example, they say “I don’t have the confidence to do that” or “I wish I felt more confident when talking with people of the opposite sex” or “I can’t speak in public because I’m not confident.”

We’re now moving closer to my realization of what confidence is, and what it’s not.

The things you know you can do (such as cleaning your teeth) don’t have feelings associated with them. They’re things you just do. The feeling only comes when you lack of confidence.

It’s a lack of confidence that we have to deal with – not confidence itself – and lack of confidence is nothing more than a way of saying we’re afraid or concerned. Just think for a moment about something you feel unconfident about. Do you fear that you might not be able to do that thing?
What you’re fearful of is what the outcome might be.

You’re probably familiar with the principle that says that when you’ve finally defined what the problem is, you’re most of the way to solving it! People who seek confidence are actually seeking something that probably doesn’t exist. For the majority of people the word confidence just means a lack of fear.

This now makes it much easier to deal with.

These days when I work with people to help them build confidence, I get them to identify the precise fears or concerns they have. With each individual client those fears or concern are different. Sometimes they’re imagined; sometimes it’s about a lack of knowledge; often it’s because they currently lack the skills to do what they want.

Let me give you an example. A client who wants to gain confidence in talking with the opposite sex is fairly common. When they first approach me, what’s probably going on inside their head is a combination of fear of rejection, fear of being laughed at, fear of failure etc.

Now let’s imagine the same person if they’d had thousands of conversations with people of the opposite sex. Since they’d had the experience of being flexible and relaxed in conversations, how do you think they’d feel? Is it likely they’d already have the confidence they’re looking for?

So if you apply the same principle to things that you feel a lack of confidence about, identifying your concerns and your fears, what skills or abilities, if you had them, would mean that most of them would disappear? What if you already had experience in this type of situation, how would you feel then?

Maybe the way for you to get the confidence you’re looking for is to identify ways to develop your skills and to gain knowledge
