Do you Struggle with a Low Self Esteem? No comments yet
Self esteem has to do with how much you like and accept yourself. It is how much you believe that you are a worth while, valuable person. Your self esteem will affect every area of your life because it has to do with knowing who you are and having self confidence in the way you live your life day to day. This article will help you understand how to build your self esteem. Let’s look at what is involved in building your self esteem.
Learning to Understand Yourself
The first step in building self esteem is to be able to understand yourself. How can you begin to like yourself until you understand something about who you are as a person? You are unique - so don’t try to be like anyone else. Start consciously noticing your likes and dislikes, the way you like to be communicated with, and the things that are important to you. That’s such a big part of who you are. You should get to know yourself, inside and out, and resist comparing yourself with other people. It is important for you to understand who you are and what you are all about. Only then can you start to appreciate your uniqueness, and learn to accept and celebrate it
Do you Know Your Strengths?
Do you know what your strengths are? This is all about knowing what you are good at, and knowing the things about yourself that you can be proud of. This should include all aspects of yourself – the way that you look, the way that you are inside, your thoughts and opinions and beliefs. Knowing your strengths will increase your self confidence. Try writing down your strengths, and reading them to yourself at least once a day. This will help to increase your feeling of value and self worth.
Do you Know Your Weaknesses?
It is also important that you should know your weaknesses. Self Esteem isn’t just about knowing the things that you are good at. It is also about knowing the things where you need improvement. It is all part of knowing yourself. We all have weaknesses, and part of self acceptance is recognizing those weaknesses and not responding in discouragement , shame or guilt. By knowing weaknesses it enables you to plan to improve those areas. As you see improvement in your life it builds your self esteem.
So how do you develop your self esteem? It is getting to know yourself and believing and accepting yourself for who you are. You have a choice as to what you believe, and you can choose not to believe the negative self talk that bombards your mind. Start celebrating your uniqueness, and choose to believe that you are lovable, competent and valuable just the way you are.
